Report of the Educational trip of IMBH course students

An educational trip of students of First Semester IMBH (Integrated Mind Body & Heart) course under FYUP of D.U. was organised on October 9, 2013 by Dr. Vandana Sharma of Music Department. The day started with over 75 students from the college reaching the Gandhi Bhawan at Delhi University by college buses. Very aptly, Dr Vandana Sharma set the mood of the visit by singing two Bhajans namely “Vaishnav Jan” and “Raghupati Raghav”, also favourites of Gandhiji, with students and all present following her.

Two interactive lectures of eminent researchers of Gandhian Philosophy and a Charkha spinning session were specially organized by the Deputy Director of the Gandhi Bhawan, Dr Nisha for the benefit of visiting students. The first speaker was Dr Krishna Mani Pathak, Associate Professor, Deptt. Of Philosophy, Hindu College who started with a discussion of the syllabus of IMBH paper. He explained the real meanings of the teachings of Gandhiji and stressed on the holistic development of today’s youth. The second talk was delivered by Dr Suman Khanna Aggarwal, Associate Professor, Mata Sundari College. She used her interaction with the students to inculcate Gandhian values making use the inputs and feedback received from the students. She also encourage them to maintain a diary personal diary specially for this course.

Talks

This was followed by a film show on Gandhiji. The students were shown a documentary titled “Mahatma: Life of Gandhi, 1869-1948” as suggested in the syllabus of IMBH. After the movie show, the students were engaged in a Group Discussion on the life and values of Gandhiji. Students took part in the discussion very enthusiastically. Students also took part in the Charkha spinning training session by Dr Sita Bimbrahw with great interest.

Charkha Training

Towards the end of the trip, there was a small competition for the students in which the students narrated their own stories/experiences of forgiveness. 10 winners were selected and each winner would be given a cash award of Rs 100/- by the Principal. Before leaving the Bhawan, the students also took a pledge to try to speak truth in their daily lives. The day ended with thanks and presentation of a souvenir from the Bhagini Nivedita College to the team headed by Dr Nisha of Gandhi Bhawan. Dr. Vandana Sharma coordinated the trip under the guidance of the Principal. Dr Manisha Bhutani, Dr Anuradha Yadav, Ms. Shweta Yadav, Ms. Nikita, Mr. Mohit and Mr. Anil accompanied the students
