Workshop on fruit and vegetable products preservation

event-photos A five day workshop on 'Fruit and Vegetable Preservation' was organised by the Food Technology wing of the Home Science Department of the College from 13 to 17 October, 2014, in collaboration with the Food Production and Training Institute (FPTI),  Aligarh. Mr. V.K. Sharma from FTPI was the resource person for this workshop. It was held in the Food Technology Lab (Room No. 37)

There were 48 participants from different streams of Home Science such as B.Sc. (Hons.) Home Science and Food Technology students belonging to 1st and 3rd Year of the B.A. Programme. It was a hands-on learning experience for the students and received enthusiastic and overwhelming response from them. They also actively participated during the interactive sessions.

During the workshop, students learned the art and science of preserving fruit and vegetable products, such as Jams, Jellies, Marmalades, Murrabba, Pickle, Syrups, Squash, Ketchup, Sauces, Chutneys, etc. The students were also shown a demonstration of the opportunities for preparing Gulukand as a by-product after rose syrup preparation. Guidelines and good practices relating to bottling, corking, sterilization, sealing, marketing and effective use of inputs were also discussed and demonstrated.

The resource person Mr. Sharma constantly motivated and guided the participants and enabled them to learn by doing. The students were enlightened and satisfied by this five day workshop. It was a great success and the very positive feedback from the students showed that it was very well appreciated by all the participants. Non-Home Science students have also expressed a desire to participate in future workshops of similar nature.

After the successful completion of the workshop, certificates of participation and completion of workshop were presented to all the participants.
