Report on Annual Day - 2018 & the Prize Distribution Function

Annual Day 2018 The 24th Annual Day of Bhagini Nivedita College was held on April 22, 2018, marking the successful completion of 25 years, since its inception in 1993, catering to the higher education needs of the girls in the semi-urban and rural outskirts of South West Delhi. Mr Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. On his arrival, the NCC Unit of the College presented a Guard of Honour to the chief Guest under the supervision of Captain (Ms) Parminder Sehgal.

The Chief Guest, accompanied by Mr Pawan Sharma, Chairman of the Governing Body, Ms Padmapriya Janakiraman, Guest of Honour, and the Principal, Dr Purabi Saikia then visited the exhibition organised by the Apparel Design and Construction stream of the Home Science Department of the college. Dr Rachna Mohan, Associate professor in the Department of Home Science escorted honoured guests around the exhibition and explained the garments, fashion accessories, designs, projects and activity reports on display. The exhibition showcased the apparel and fashion accessory items prepared by the students and also included photographic reports of the various activities and projects. The Chief Guest viewed the work of the students with deep interest and also interacted with them. He also appreciated the way in which the college was preparing the students for meeting the challenges of the future.

The dignitaries also joined the Welcome Tea organised by the Reception Committee during the course of which the Deputy CM also met representatives of the local Community of Kair and nearby villages and discussed their problems in areas such as electricity, water, etc. He took note of the issues and promised to resolve their problems in a time bound manner.

The Annual Day function then commenced with the chanting of the Saraswati Vandana by the students and the lighting of the lamp by Mr Sisodia and other dignitaries. Students of the college also presented a Yoga performance on the stage under the supervision of Dr Mamta Sehrawat, Assistant Professor, Department of Physical Education. Dr Sushma Rana, Assistant Professor, Department of Sanskrit who was the compere for the function then invited the Chief Guest and other dignitaries to the dais. Mr Pawan Sharma, Chairman of the College Governing Body presided over the function. Leaders of the local community of Kair and nearby villages welcomed the Chief Guest and other dignitaries offering turbans, which symbolised their show of respect and sharing of pride. Both the Chairman of the Governing Body and the Principal extended a warm welcome to the Chief Guest and all the dignitaries. The Principal then presented the Annual Report of the College. Dr Vandana Sharma, Associate Professor in the Department of Music, who received the Best Teacher Award from the Government of NCT of Delhi was then felicitated by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries. The Chief Guest Mr Manish Sisodia also the released the College Magazine.

The Chief Guest Mr Manish Sisodia, in his address, appreciated the yoga performance and the apparel design and construction exhibition and encouraged the students and faculty members to keep up the good work and pursue the path of excellence. He exhorted the students to become tech-savvy, apply these in everyday life and create a better future for themselves and the country. Appreciating the contributions of the faculty members as well as the non-teaching staff towards providing a better quality of education to the students, he assured that the Government would take steps for the early construction of the new campus and provide all the assistance to make the college technology friendly. He also thanked the local community leaders for their warm welcome and specially acknowledged the initiative taken by them 25 years ago to make Bhagini Nivedita College a reality and making higher education easily accessible to the girls hailing from the rural areas of South West Delhi.

The Treasurer of the Governing Body Prof. Sudhir Kumar, an eminent scholar of Sanskrit, Head of Department of School of Sanskrit, JNU, motivated the students and encouraged them with his novel ideas. Ms Richa Pandey Mishra, Chairman of Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, University of Delhi, also inspired the students with her thoughts and vision.

Prizes and awards were then distributed to the meritorious students by the Chief Guest and all other dignitaries. The students were honoured for their academic excellence as well as their achievements in sports and other extracurricular activities. The Annual Day function closed with a vote of thanks presented by the Secretary of the staff council and recitation of the National Anthem
