Guidelines on ICT Usage

The college provides the following options/facilities for the students to make use of information and communication technologies (ICT)

  • Computer Centre: The computer centre is open to all students for both Internet browsing and doing word processing including the preparation of reports, presentations and data. Printing of documents could also be done at nominal costs. Students are required to visit the computer centre and sign the visitor register before making use of these facilities under the overall supervision of the System Administrator.

  • Library: These computers are available for making use of the OPAC system for locating books available in the library as well as for accessing the N-List system which includes over 97,000 e-books and 6000 e-journals under the guidance and supervision of the concerned library staff

  • Computer Laboratory: These computers are available to the students studying Computer Application Course under the B.A Programme or B.Sc in Physics with computer application for doing classwork and practicals under the guidance and supervision of the concerned teachers

  • OMSP Laboratory: These computers are available to the students studying Office Management and Secretarial Practices Application Course under the B.A Programme

  • Laptops: The college has around 500 laptops, which are issued to the semester each student subject to an undertaking from the students regarding their safe use. Laptops with additional software tools are available for differently abled students

  • Laptops for Student Presentations: Windows based laptops are available for issue to teachers for running computer based presentations. Students are required to contact their teachers in case they wish to make computer based presentations as part of their projects/assignments

  • Internet Connectivity: Wi-Fi based Internet connectivity is available through out the campus for authorised academic usage. Please contact the Computer Centre Administrator for availing of Internet connectivity for authorised usage.

Students are encouraged to use the ICT facilities of the college for the following purposes

  • To develop skills in using ICT for academic purposes.

  • To use ICT as a learning tool

  • To access e-journals and e-books available from the N-List services and learning resources available from other sources, which are hyper linked on the college website

  • To browse/download learning resources from the Internet

  • To use Internet as a tool in research projects

  • To make use of Internet resources for completing assignments and projects

  • To acquire additional information and knowledge required for advanced learning

  • To augment general and cross disciplinary knowledge

  • To improve general and transferable skills with the help of free assistance/training provided by websites.

  • To identify and avail of opportunities for further education or future careers.

  • To browse the college and university websites and obtaining information and data services available from these.

  • To communicate with teachers and fellow students through email for academic purposes or in relation college activities as well as with the college functionaries for related administrative matters.

  • To share creative/innovative ideas and outputs through the college website

Students are required to use proper procedures and precautions including the following

  • Obtain the necessary login id and password from the concerned administrators

  • Adhere to the specific instructions displayed or orally conveyed by the concerned administrators of any computer or ICT facilities

  • Maintain the confidentiality of login id and password. Do not respond to emails or messages asking for your passwords, bank account or credit/debit card numbers.

  • Students will remain accountable and responsible for all activities carried out in computer systems or ICT facilities with the help of their login id and password

  • Use proper start up and shut down procedures while using college laptops

  • Use proper start up and exit/quit procedures while using any software

  • Always log out of the computer system and the applications used while leaving these

  • Use only the installed software; for additional software contact the concerned administrators

  • Use only the installed disks for storing data

  • Use UK English dictionary for correcting spelling mistakes in word processor software

  • Submit requests for additional ICT facilities/training through the college suggestion boxes

  • Report to the concerned administrators any error messages or freezing/hanging/automatic shut down of computers encountered while using computers

  • Report to the concerned administrators any unsolicited messages or downloads initiated by any computer software or website page.

  • Use the computers and other ICT equipment with care so as not to damage these in any way

  • Use the computer rooms, furniture and accessories with care so as not to dirty or damage these in any way

Students are advised against misusing the ICT facilities in any way and adhere to the following specific instructions also

  • Do not turn off antivirus/Internet firewall protection installed in the computer/laptop

  • Do not install or attempt to install any additional software without the proper authorisation of the concerned administrators

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for any illegal activities or for any activity which breaches the College rules or for any activity, which undermines the security of the students, staff or facilities of the college.

  • Do not lend your id and password or provide/facilitate access to ICT facilities to those who are not entitled to use these.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for obtaining or transmitting unauthorised information/data

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for sending unsolicited or unauthorised bulk email (spam) which is not legitimate

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for bullying, harassing, intimidating or otherwise causing harm or distress to others.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for bullying, harassing, intimidating or otherwise causing harm or distress to others.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for creating, retrieving, storing offensive, obscene or defamatory material.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities for breaching the copyrights and making unauthorised use of material covered by copyrights.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities in any irresponsible or reckless manner, which may damage the computer system or the software or the data

  • Do not use or attempt to use any software against the terms and conditions of the concerned software licensing agreements.

  • Do not use or attempt to use ICT facilities in anyway, which tarnishes the image of the college or brings down its reputation.
