Nutrition & Heallth Education

Overview

Nutrition has been recognised and given a special role in national development. Nutrition and health courses are built on the foundations of the National Policy on Nutrition. Nutrition generates lot of concerns and issues and is very important to every individual and the society. Nutrition is a key requirement for facilitating and enhancing the quality of human life. The home science stream on nutrition and health education aims at enriching the minds of the students who have interest in learning the finer points of nutrition and its linkages with health. The approach is inherently interdisciplinary. The curriculum engages the student through teaching, research and extension work.

The papers offered under this stream aim at developing a holistic and multidimensional understanding of the relevant topics. The syllabus of these courses cover basic aspects of nutrients, food science, nutrition concerns in various stages of life cycle, food safety, food security as well as provides insights in to the national problem of malnutrition and equip the students with the academic understanding and skills required for employment in various fields such as food industry, health clinics, NGOs, etc.
