Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)

 

EDC of the college has been established towards realising the vision of the college to empower the girl students by enabling those with self-employment or entrepreneurial aspirations to become business owners or independent service providers.

 

Roles and Functions of the EDC

 

  • To organise awareness programmes about role of entrepreneurs and the qualities required for successful entrepreneurship.
  • To compile and disseminate information about women entrepreneurship development schemes, opportunities, services, incentives  and facilities available from different governmental and non-governmental agencies
  • To establish linkages with women entrepreneurship promotion organisations and create opportunities for aspiring students to benefit from the services provided by such agencies
  • To arrange summer training opportunities for the students to give them practical exposure to the challenges of setting up and managing businesses successfully
  • To organise in-campus exhibitions and sales to help students acquire basic marketing skills
  • To create interaction opportunities for aspiring students with banks and other financial institutions providing funding support for women entrepreneurs.
  • To invite external experts to speak on subjects relevant to entrepreneurs in general and women entrepreneurs in particular such as the preparation of a business plan and approaching angel investors
  • To arrange visits to industrial areas/clusters and relevant institutions

The functioning of the EDC will be governed by the same general rules, which are applicable to all the Committees and Cells of the college.

Annual Report (2014-2015)

 

The Entrepreneurship Development Cell comprised the following members – Ms. Snigdha Singh, Mr. Himanshu Arora, Ms. Seema Gupta and Dr. Avansih Pratap Singh with Dr. Rachna Mohan as the coordinator.

The entrepreneurship development cell of the college was established towards realising the vision of the college to empower the girl students by enabling those with self-employment or entrepreneurial aspirations to become business owners or independent service providers.

The following specific actions were taken by this Cell during 2014-15:

 

  • EDC organised an on the spot survey to let the students assess for themselves their inherent potential for becoming entrepreneurs. The quiz was held in the Computer Centre of the college on September 21, 2014. Over 80 students participated in the quiz with great enthusiasm. The final tabulation of the scores of all the 81 students revealed that there was an overwhelming majority of students among the participants with very high or high entrepreneurship potential.

  • It invited Mrs. Reshma Bhatia, having over 20 years of highly successful experience in the catering business to share her success story and provide an orientation to the students on the opportunities and challenges of 'Setting up Catering Business’, on November 5, 2015.

  • EDC also invited Ms. Navneet Khera, a successful Boutique owner to share her success story and provide an orientation to the students on the opportunities and challenges of 'Setting up a Successful Boutique Business’. This orientation programme was held on March 25, 2015, with over 60 participants.

  • It also invited Mrs. Sushma Khan, who is a Bollywood Celebrity Makeup Artist and Lakme National Creative Director for Makeup to share her success story and provide an orientation to the students on the opportunities and challenges of ‘Setting up a Beauty Salon’. This orientation programme was held on March 29, 2015. There were over 60 participants

  • The EDC in collaboration with the Commerce Society organised a workshop on “Filing of Income Tax Return by an Individual” on 16th January, 2015. The main objective of this workshop was to acquaint the students about the implications and ways of filing tax returns which will give them practical knowledge about the subject and would also help them to learn the skill of filing the same. CA Nitin Aggarwal, an experienced consultant was invited as the resource person for the workshop.

  • The Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) also invited Mr. Arindam Mazumdar having over 13 years of highly successful experience in the insurance business to conduct and orientation programme on ‘Insurance Promotion as a Self-Employment Opportunity’

  • A visit to Miranda House was organised for the students to see the working of a Rapid Composting Plant – using GreenBandhu Technology and assess the opportunity for taking it up as an entrepreneurial activity.

  • EDC also wrote mails to NIESBUD and National Small Industries Corporation Limited (NSIC) to establish linkages for the promotion of women entrepreneurship activities and create opportunities for aspiring students to benefit from services provided by such agencies. Their response is awaited.

  • Talks are also on with the Cluster Innovation Centre of the DU to organize collaborative activities specially for the students of the Science courses. A separate notice board has been procured for the cell and put up near The MP Hall for displaying notices and information about the Cell's events and activities.

  • EDC would like to thank all its members for their unstinting cooperation and the principal for her continued encouragement and support.
